TUFS student wins first prize in Bulgarian Language Speech Contest.
December 19, 2024
On Saturday, December 7th 2024, the 2nd Bulgarian Language Speech Contest (hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria) was held at the Faculty of Foreign Studies of Osaka University, and Ms. Tamako Wada, a fourth year student of the TUFS School of Language and Culture Studies, Russian language major, won first prize in the student category.
This competition is held for people whose native language is not Bulgarian, with the aim of improving their ability to use the Bulgarian language and developing exchange and friendship with people who speak Bulgarian. Participants compete in a speech contest lasting no more than three minutes in either the “student division” for those currently enrolled in educational institutions such as universities and high schools, or the “general division” for working people. Ms. Wada gave a speech entitled “Bulgarian Hospitality” and won the competition.
Comment from Ms. Wada
At this competition, I gave a speech about an encounter I had in a village where the famous Rose Festival was held, which I visited while studying abroad in Bulgaria.
During my time studying abroad, I was helped many times by the kind words and actions of the Bulgarian people. I hope that being able to talk about this encounter with such wonderful people at a competition like this, and winning, will be a small way of giving back.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the teachers who helped me to participate in this competition, my Bulgarian friends who accompanied me to practice, my Japanese friends who gave me the opportunity to go to the Rose Festival in the first place, and to everyone I met in Bulgaria. Thank you very much.
