lecture meeting

On November 23rd, TASC invited Mr. Ken Inoue, a former United Nations (UN) staff member who participated in UN missions such as the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) and the Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIK). He is currently a representative of the Institute of Personal Governance. Mr. Inoue gave a special lecture on UN peacekeeping operations and shared insights from his career as a UN staff member.

In his lecture, Mr. Inoue not only explained the current state of UN peacekeeping operations
and the challenges, but also provided valuable advice on career development for those considering a career with the UN.

Participants commented that “I was able to learn deeply what it is like to work for the UN through this lecture. It was also a meaningful experience to immerse myself into the international environment that TUFS has.”

Moderator's Comment Ms. Mao Shishido

The significance of the UN's existence is being questioned today as conflicts erupt in various parts of the world. However, I thought that the fact that the UN is being criticized in such a way is because of its global influence and the high expectations that people have for the UN.

It is difficult for civil society to grasp the reality of what the UN does, but it was very rewarding to learn about the significance and impact of its work by hearing directly from someone who has spent many years building a career at the UN.”
